Excellent condition and highly collectible Rolex Explorer II Orange hand model reference 1655.  It comes with the original guarantee/chronometer certificate, plus Rolex service receipts and other purchase receipts. Just returned from a service with my watchmaker. These watches are highly collectible due to their rarity and are continually rising in value. The model name is an Explorer II but it is often referred to as the Orange Hand Explorer due to obvious reasons. In addition to being called the Orange hand Explorer II is also commonly referred to as the Steve McQueen model, as he was allegedly seen wearing this model on a regular basis. However popular research suggests that Steve McQueen favoured the Rolex Submariner 5512 chronometer model, this was in private and on film sets. He was also seen wearing the Heuer Monaco on film sets. The Explorer II watches are in high demand and represent a good investment as well as being a lovely and desirable watch that can be worn every day. This model was made for a short period only in the 1970's and early 1980’s and is therefore the reason why they continue to rise in value.  They are not easy to find and are due to the short production period, they are a scarce watch. The orange hand provides a 24 hour function and the hand rotates the dial every 24 hours, and the 24 hour time is reference is against the fixed 24 hour outer bezel. The orange hand can be used for a GMT function. The dial is in excellent condition with a little fading to the orange hand, particularly to the sharp end of the orange hand, there is s little fading to the tritium luminosity. It has a screw down crown with stop seconds function for accurate time setting, date function at 3 position, with magnified cyclops lens, acrylic plexi crystal, and above all, it is a Swiss Certified Chronometer. The case and bracelet are in good condition with marks here and there from regular use, and some light marks to the fixed bezel. It was originally purchased in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1980, and was purchased in 1984 by the previous owner, so it has had two owners from new.  It was serviced in 1996 by Rolex South Africa and comes with a receipt to indicate this fact. During this service, it was fitted with a new crystal , crown and crown tube. It was serviced again by Rolex Johannesburg in 2004 where it underwent a complete factory overhaul. It comes with the Rolex service receipt showing this which is has been plastic laminated. It also comes with a letter from the second owner explaining that it was purchased by him second hand in 1984. The second owner  had it engraved with his name and the text Johannesburg 9-IV-1984. This is an all around great watch can be worn everyday or a good collectors piece and investment with continued rising prices. The dimensions of the watch are as follows: The width is 40 mm excluding crown, 42mm including crown and 48 mm lug to lug and thickness is 13.5 mm. Ref: ROL 485. Price is £8,850 or US $13,750

Excellent to mint condition very rare Rolex Oyster perpetual Zephyr officially certified Swiss chronometer. It is a stunning looking watch in lovely condition for its age. It is a model reference 1038 and was manufactured in 1967. The case is the classic Oyster case in stainless steel with screw down crown, the case that made the Rolex watch company famous and set new standards in case design. It has an 18 karat gold fixed bezel which is marked with hour and minute markers. the crown is also made of 18k karat gold. The case back is a screw on back which is not engraved or marked as a Rolex Oyster case should be. The dial is a black dial which is showing some signs of patina which is good in two ways, one is that is shows the warmth and age of a classic vintage watch, and secondly demonstrates that the dial is one hundred percent original. The dial is marked with the usual Rolex words and logos, indicating that it is an Oyster Perpetual and that it is an officially certified Swiss chronometer. The thing that separates this Zephyr model from other Oysters, is that it lacks number or baton hour markers but has small dots instead and has a cross hair pattern on the dial stretching from top to bottom and left to right. The hands are gold and the dial text is also gold which is offset beautifully against the black dial and perfectly compliments the 18k gold bezel and crown. These features make for an attractive and classic looking timepiece from the world's most eminent and prolific high quality watchmakers, Rolex. It has got a domed plexi crystal. Excellent condition and extremely rare 18 karat pink gold (or otherwise known as rose gold) Rolex Oyster Perpetual Chronometer model reference 6085. The only other example of a pink gold 6085 that I can currently find is for sale in the USA for $12,800 (£8,000). Although the Ref. 6085 was a popular model in stainless steel and yellow gold very few examples were made in 18 karat pink gold. Many of the pink  gold Ref. 6085’s were made for special orders. Those which survive are highly coveted by collectors.  Although this example shows some evidence of wear and is in fantastic condition for it’s age and runs very well, the original silver dial, is gently and evenly toned by age, with its triangular luminous markers, is absolutely breathtaking. This watch has its original solid rose gold luminous hands, mint condition pink gold bezel engraved with the hour markers, and a mint condition 18k pink gold case. It comes on an 18k rose gold riveted Rolex Oyster bracelet, rarer still it is the elasticated type bracelet, which is still tight and has not stretched with age, There has been a repair to one of the links and the repaired link is not elasticated, but this is a minor point and does not detract from this beautiful and rare watch. It has coot the original screw down crown, plexi crystal and solid screw on case back in waterproof Oyster case (water proofing is not tested). This watch was tough to find in exceptional condition. In today’s marketplace, such watches are rarely offered outside of the major auction houses. This is a good opportunity to obtain a truly unique and scarce timepiece for a watch collection and  Rolex collector’s dream watch This is another Rolex that makes the wearer proud to own and sets them apart from the crowd.  It is keeping excellent time as one would expect a Rolex to do. It is immaculate all around with patina to the dial and a very nice Rolex watch that would make any wearer very proud of.  The gross weight of the watch is 73 grams and by today’s rate, the scrap value is £1,680. The width is 35 mm excluding crown, and 37 mm including the crown.  The thickness is 13 mm and the lug to lug distance is 39 mm.  Ref: ROL 461. Price is £3,995 or US $6,500

Mint and new looking condition Rolex Air King Precision Date automatic watch model reference 5700. The Air King date was allegedly only made for two years at separate intervals and is one of the most collectible of the non sports models and certainly the most collectible Air King and a must for any Rolex collection. This one dates to approximately 1974. It is in lovely condition and has been well maintained over the years. It is unlikely that the case has been polished as the corners and edges are sharp as if it was when the watch was new. The bracelet is correct for the watch and not a later replacement. It is the bracelet type 1735 folded link and is full size in length with 13 links and case have a few insignificant marks, and in overall outstanding condition for its age. The crystal, dial and hands are in mint condition. The dial is the seldom seen and superb mercury colour, which is somewhere in between silver and metallic grey in colour. It contrasts well against the silver batons and hands. The watch has a screw down crown, usual Rolex trademark features such as signed crown, signed bracelet with folding clasp with coronet logo on the clasp, all stainless steel case and bracelet and screw on case back. Also with large Air King Date logo across the dial to provide classic Air King style. Beautiful Rolex unrestrained elegance and superior designed watch which can be a watch for all occasions. Tudor submariner automatic diver’s watch. The Tudor Submariner automatic diver's watch is another watch that needs little introduction, and coming only second to it’s big brother the Rolex Submariner, the Tudor is amongst the most successful and widely known divers watch in the world – mainly because it is identical in looks to the Rolex Submariner, but sports a different movement.  Like the Rolex, it is the watch that set the standard in professional divers watches and one that most other divers watches aspire to emulate. This particular example is a full size model in mint and seemingly worn very little. It has the much desired matte dial without the white metal indices surrounds making it less with less glare and more legible. It also has the raised acrylic plexi crystal. It has the large screw down Rolex triplock crown with Rolex coronet logo on the crown. It comes with the original paperwork and the Tudor plastic document wallet. The papers show the watch was purchased from authorised delaers in 2004. It was.  It is 200 metres resistant, sturdy bi directional, smooth friction operated rotating bezel in the same colour black as the dial with screwed down crownl. The dial, crystal, case and bracelet are virtually flawless. Good condition Rolex Oyster Royal hand winding watch dating to the 1950’s. For its age it is in lovely condition and running like a dream. It comes on a replacement Oyster style bracelet which is signed G & Co, this could possibly refer to Gay Freres, who were a Swiss famous bracelet manufacturer and made bracelets for the likes of Rolex and other big name Swiss watch houses. There is very little stretch to the bracelet and it is the type with the riveted links. Classic looking dial with silver dial and contrasting blued steel hands and baton markers and gold Rolex crown logo. This is great watch and a really good one for a collection or starting point for collectors or wearers alike who want a Rolex.  It is a neat vintage with all of the quality of a Rolex bought today but a fraction of the cost.  The case and dial are styled in the classic oyster style which later became to represent the Rolex watch company.  Form as early as 1950 Rolex have created a legend, which still exists today with the Oyster case and dial design.  The dial colour pearl silver with gold hands and gold applied combination of batons and numerals with blued steel sweep seconds hand.  This is another Rolex that makes the wearer proud to own and sets them apart from the crowd. Dimensions are as follows. The width is 31 mm excluding crown, and 35 mm including the crown. The thickness is 11 mm and the lug to lug distance is 39 mm. Ref: ROL 417. sold

Very rare and seldom seen Rolex Girouette. Some little treasures turn up on odd occasions, some are pretty, some are rare, some are just nice well made novelties and some are simply delightful. This Rolex Girouette is all four of these and many more superlatives could be added to describe this little gem of a watch. However excessive and verbose descriptions could be dismissed as over exuberant sales patter so I shall refrain. What can be said that is that it’s very rare, it is collectible and it is a well made novelty item and a dream find for a Rolex collector or anybody who admires and appreciates finer made objects. The watch is from the mid 1930’s and as such is in immaculate condition for its age. No doubt that at some stage in its life, it has been put away in a drawer and largely forgotten about or gone unused as some other timing format had taken it’s place. The only reference that I could find is in one of the definitive Rolex books, “Rolex Wristwatches” by James Dowling and Jeffrey Hess. In the book the watch is described and a picture of an advert is in the book. The advert, placed in Punch Magazine in June 1937 and is photographed below. It is described by Rolex as three watches in one. Close it for the handbag, trouser pocket and keep it anywhere amongst other articles without being damaged. Reverse it upwards (to display the clock face) for the waistcoat pocket. Stand it upright at any angle towards you as desk, bedside or traveller’s clock. The clock works well in all capacities. It flips upwards from its casing on a ball bearing and will stay put at any angle that it is left at. When reversed, the face is well protected and it is small and slim enough to fit in any pocket without being over bulky. The case is coated in black leather with a black leather tag. The case is stainless steel and the clock case is also stainless steel. It has got an immaculate condition dial with virtually no sign of age whatsoever. One can assume from this that it has been stored for its long period of dormancy in a dry place with its face down in the closed position. The dial is pearly silver with black applied Arabic numerals, blued steel hands and subsidiary seconds at the 6 position. It has hand winding Rolex signed 17 jewel Swiss lever movement. The original sales price was £10 and 10 shillings. Whilst that might sound cheap it was pretty expensive in 1937. A quick bit of research shows that the average salary in 1937 was £201 per year. So form this data, the clock would have cost about 3 weeks wages. Lovely collectible piece. Dimensions are as follows. Width is 49 mm at the widest point, 15 mm at the narrowest point top to bottom is 53 mm and it is 9.5 mm thick. The clock itself is 30 mm wide and 7.5 mm thick. Ref: ROL 416. The watch is in near mint condition and has been looked after and maintained with a great deal of care.  It was serviced around 2 years ago by an independent watchmaker and is keeping good time.  It is the highly collectible Submariner date with thick plexi crystal (plastic) and matte tritium dial. The 1680 reference submariners are very collectible and are difficult it find in good condition.  Whilst the prices of vintage Rolex sports models has dropped off in recent months due to a fall after a little bit of a collecting hype, figures have stabilized. At one stage at the peak of their hype, the 1680 Submariners were selling for up to £6,000 for an average condition one. The Submariner is a watch that needs no introduction, as it is unquestionably the most successful and widely known divers watch in the world. It is the watch that set the standard in professional divers watches and one that most other divers watches aspire to emulate. This watch has been used by the military for issue to special forces divers. It has been issued to divers working for under water pipe laying companies. It has been issued to divers working on oil rigs, and used by non commercial divers all over the world – such is the reliability, robustness and practicality of this watch. It is equally at home being worn with a suit or for weekend leisure. Needless to say it is an officially certified Swiss chronometer as indicated by the dial markings. It is 300 metres resistant, sturdy uni directional, friction operated rotating bezel with screwed down crown and genuine Rolex 2 mm thick acrylic crystal. The dial, crystal, case and bracelet are mint condition. Dimensions are: width is 40 mm excluding crown, 43.5 mm including crown and 47 mm lug to lug and thickness is 14 mm. ROL 382. reserved

Excellent condition Rolex Submariner 5513.  It was purchased from the original owners’ son. The son has said the following about the watch “The watch belonged to my father who passed away 17 years ago. He used the watch as a North Sea diver with Sub Sea International and wreck diving all over the world”. This is the famous model reference 5513, the one that the British military used for issue to the Royal Marines in the late 9160’s and 1970’s. If it can live up to the standard of the military, it is good enough for every day use. And indeed has been used by divers for professional use the world over jus as in this particular example. Acrylic face Rolex sports models continue to rise in price despite a recent dip, they are going back up again and always represent a good investment.  This one is the earlier and original version with mat black dial and painted luminous dots without the white metal surrounds around the dots.  The dial is original and in clean condition, however the hands are newer service genuine Rolex hands. This model is correct and has the correct bracelet and end pieces for the watch.  It is a handsome watch worn for business or leisure, but is primarily a highly functional and reliable divers watch.  It comes on the original stainless steel Oyster bracelet with divers extension and fliplock safety clasp, sturdy bi directional non ratchet rotating bezel, acrylic plexi crystal, screw down large crown with protective shoulders, and triplock screwing/waterproofing mechanism.  Rolex automatic movement calibre 1520 movement, it dates tot he late 1960’s. however in 2002 it was returned to Rolex for a full service, during the service it was re-cased with a correct 5513 case, serial reference is 44…references show this as 1975. it had a Rolex new clasp and new hands, which show a different shade of luminosity to the tritium on the dial. Matching hands can be found and swapped if so desired. There is no service receipt from Rolex, but Rolex have verbally confirmed this when I contacted the service department in Bexley to check the service history. Dimensions are: width is 40 mm excluding crown, 44mm including crown and 47 mm lug to lug and thickness is 12 mm. Ref: ROL 370. 2,895 reserved

Excellent condition and very rare Rolex Explorer Date. The Explorer Date is the predecessor the Rolex Explorer as we know it today. The watch is seldom seen and referenced in James Dowlings authoritative book, Rolex Watches. The condition is excellent for the year and the watch is running very well. It dates to 1960 and is model reference 5701.  It has got the classic Oyster Perpetual case which is also in good condition. The crown is the original screw down crown for water resistance, but it is not tested. The watch has a serrated 18 karat gold fixed bezel which contrasts nicely against the stainless steel case. The dial is silver with gold batons and gold hands, which also contrast well against the steel case and gold bezel. The crystal is acrylic with magnified date window. The movement is a Swiss made automatic winding twenty five jewel Rolex calibre 1530, this is a fantastic and long standing tried and tested workhorse of a movement which was used across a wide rang of sports models including he submariner. The watch is a classic looking Rolex Oyster but with a difference in that it is one of the original early Explorer models. The styling is plain unassuming yet classic as one would expect from a Rolex. They run for ever and the crowns are masterful as after all of this time it still operated beautifully. This is a nice vintage collectible classic and one to add to any decent Rolex collection. It comes on non original Spiedel expanding bracelet. However correct Rolex Oyster bracelets can be found, the fact the bracelet is not original is reflects in the price. Width is 36 mm excluding crown, 38 mm including crown and 44 mm lug to lug. Excellent condition Rolex Oyster Royal hand winding watch, model 6044 dating at 1965. The dial is showing some patina to wards the lower part which is natural for a watch of this age and adds to the charisma and vintage look to the watch.   It has a Super Oyster Rolex crown, and is water resistant originally however it is not tested and should be treated with caution if using near water.  It has a stainless steel case with original period folded link riveted steel bracelet.  This is another Rolex that makes the wearer proud to own and sets them apart from the crowd. Dimensions are as follows. The width is 32 mm excluding crown, and 35 mm including the crown. The thickness is 10 mm and the lug to lug distance is 39 mm. Ref: ROL 290.  sold

B159 Rolex gstp 4.jpg (79851 bytes)

Excellent condition Rolex Military pocket watch.  Rolex themselves need no introduction as they are one of the most famous watch houses in the world.  In the early days of their history they were making pocket watches before the advent of the wristwatch.  This one is one of their military watches that was issued to the British armed forces during the World War 1 period and is more than likely to have been issued to an officer.  The style is typical in military design with a mat black dial with large and bold numerals and hands, some of the luminous fill has fallen from the hands, but a decent watchmaker will be able to restore the hands, however it is best left and it is being sold as it is.  The dial is signed Rolex and the numbers A17274.  As with all military watches, the case is metal alloy.  The case back is stamped with the military issue numbers “A. 17274, below that G.S. MK II and beneath that a broad arrow.  The inside of the case back is also stamped by Rolex.  The movement is in excellent condition and the bridge is stamped with Rolex.  It is a 15 jewel stem wound movement.  This is a wonderful piece of military memorabilia and one to be treasured by a collector which appeals to militaria and Rolex enthusiasts alike.  Dimensions are width is 50 mm and thickness is 15mm.  Ref: ROL 280.  sold

Tudor Submariner automatic diver’s watch. This is the early rare “Tudor Rose” with the rose logo on the dial. The watch was originally purchased in 1968 and comes with fantastic provenance. It comes in the original box and also the original copy of the credit sale agreement. This shows that the watch was purchased by a certain Emyr Jones who resided in Abergele, Denbighshire, North Wales. He was a seaman in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Tartar. He purchases the watch through the Army, Navy and Air Force Institutes, where military personnel could buy equipment such as this watch and repay the military over a period of months. The original purchase price was £37 after a discount given and was repaid over 14 months as shown in the schedule that comes with the watch. This is all fantastic provenance and history to go with the watch. The case back is also lightly engraved with “E Jones” As it is a light engraving it could easily be polished out with minimum effect on the watch, but it is probably left original as the engraving contributes to the provenance as it tallies up with the name on the schedule. It has the large screw down Rolex twinlock crown with Rolex coronet logo on the crown. It is 200 metres resistant, sturdy bi directional, smooth friction operated rotating bezel in the same colour black as the dial with screwed down crown. The dial, crystal, case and bracelet are virtually flawless.  The crown is screwed down for water resistance, and the case back is stamped with “Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva” with the Rolex crown logo.  It comes on a fabric military strap. Dimensions are: width is 40 mm excluding crown, 44 mm including crown and 47 mm lug to lug and thickness is 10.5 mm.  VIN 560.3195 3195 sold
