Azimuth Montres Back to For Sale Index

Azimuth watch company was founded in 2003.  Its timepieces are produced in Bienne Switzerland, a region reputed for top of the range watch engineering and manufacturing. Watch making at Azimuth is strictly mechanical and truly avant-garde. Bienne has long been an important centre for Swiss watch making, housing various well known traditional local brands as well as a centre for continual research and manufacturing of new timepieces. Manufacturers of machine tools are also important, and the town is home to a major architecture and engineering school. At Azimuth, the product development team is constantly pursuing developments in the field of complications and product design to position itself at the forefront of horological excellence. This is especially evident in the way the company has explored technological limits with the in-house development of its semi-complication modules. The serenity of Lac de Bienne has inspired our master craftsmen to inject rich artistry into the timepieces by handcrafting its miniaturised wonders for deep appreciation. They include some of the world’s most beautiful hand engraved balance bridges in art deco style, as well as skeletonised movements. Such devotion to quality and detail are put in place to ensure that the end-product is truly unique and worthy of the discerning customer.

This is the long awaited and much anticipated Jagdbomber from Azimuth.  Like the Bombardier, the Jagdbomber is designed as a homage to the durable and highly legible pilot's watches from the World War II.  The watch is large and substantial, just as the originals were.  In fact some of the originals were so large they could not be worn on the wrist, they were like small clocks that pilots strapped to their legs so the could tell the time by looking into their laps.  It has an oversized onion crown, oversized dial with bold, highly legible luminous numerals, and riveted calf strap.  The design is a slight variation to the original pilot watches and from this era.  This is because a Unitas 6497 movement has been used and a feature of that is a subsidiary seconds dial, which is placed at the 9 position.  The dial is mat black with lumionova luminosity.  Unlike the original pilot watches the Jagdbomber has the makers name, Azimuth and model on the dial.  The originals, made by a range of companies, from IWC, Lange & Sohne, Wempe, and Laco did not have any dial logo or other symbol to give away the makers.  It is 3 ATM water resistant and the case is finely crafted and beautifully finished.  The movement is the sturdy hand wound Unitas 6479 which is decorated with diamond etched plates, blued screws and Geneva stripes.   Has a glass display back to reveal the movement.   It is limited to 100 pieces.  The case is 47mm, and constructed from high grade 316 L stainless steel, it is brushed finish giving an attractive matte appearance.  Has a sapphire crystal and is 3 ATM water resistant  Historical timepiece, fit for any military watch collection.  Dimensions are as followsWidth is 47 mm excluding the crown, 53 mm including the crown, lug to lug is 52 mm and thickness is 12 mm.  Ref. This is the Azimuth bombardier III which is very similar to the First Bombardier, except this one has blue steel hands and uses a different movement, the A Shilde caliber AS 1950.  The Bombardier is designed as a homage to the durable and highly legible pilot's watches from the World War II. The design is true to the original pilot watches and from this era, one of the first pilot watches ever made, thus setting the trend in the way a modern pilot watch looks even today.  The dial is mat black with lumionova luminosity.  There is no dial logo, just as the original pilot watches – made by a range of companies, from IWC, Lange & Sohne, Wempe, and Laco did not have any dial logo or other symbol to give away the makers name – just pure function and no clutter making it as legible as possible.  It is 3 ATM water resistant and the case is finely crafted and beautifully finished.  The movement is A Shilde caliber AS 1950 circa 1960s Limited to 200 pieces which has been fully refurbished refitted to operate by today’s exacting standards.  The movement is hand wound and decorated.  The case is 47mm, and constructed from high grade 316 L stainless steel, it is brushed finish giving an attractive matte appearance.  Historical timepiece, fit for any military watch collection.  Dimensions are as follows.  Width is 47 mm excluding the crown, 53 mm including the crown, lug to lug is 52 mm and thickness is 12 mm.  Ref. The Regulator Retrograde Minutes is a stunning looking watch designed in a simplistic yet decorative and stylish format.  The Regulator has retrograde minutes feature, a fascinating and technically brilliant and ingenious design, and a pleasure to view. The regulator watches are becoming increasingly popular in the wristwatch form. Traditionally a regulator was a large and very accurate clock.  The regulator clocks were used in places where accurate timing was essential such as in observatories, meterological centers, laboratories, and other scientific institutions.  Other places were rail satiations, harbours and other transport planning centers.  Latterly regulators have been made into wristwatches.  The hours are indicated in the top sub dial, minutes by the central hand and seconds in the lower sub dial.  The clocks traditionally had this arrangement to keep all three hands in separate parts of the clock so absolute accurate time could be read clearly and precisely with out confusing any of the hands.  The regulator wristwatch makes for a stunning looking and stylish accessory that is a great talking point and an amazing work of art.  The wristwatch is also one that incorporates a retrograde minutes hand.  That is the minute hand moves along the semi circle at the bottom of the watch.  When the sixty minute mark is reached, the minute hand snaps back to zero in a spring loaded flick, and begins up the sixty minute scale again.  Sweeping central seconds hand and hours in the top sub dials.  The high grade 316L stainless steel case is beautifully crafted and finished to perfection in a matte – brushed effect, with attractive tiered bezel.  It has a glass display back showing off movement.  The movement is an automatic ETA 2836-2 modified by Azimuth to a regulator with retrograde minutes, and signed Azimuth rotor.  It has stop seconds for accurate setting against a time signal.  It has a domed sapphire crystal, water resistant to 5 ATM.  Attractive and beautifully crafted silver dial with guilloché finish.  Stylish and superbly matching blued hands.  Comes on a signed 20 mm soft calf skin strap with croc grain and with signed steel deployant buckle.  Dimensions are as follows.  Width is 44 mm excluding crown, 44 mm including crown, 48 mm lug to lug and 13.5 mm thick.  Ref. AZR 03. Price is £1,545 or US $3,100
