| Diver's and Sports Watches Back to Which Watch?
Divers and sports watches, like military watches are rugged, strong, and built to survive testing and extreme environments. Amateurs and professionals alike need a precise indication of lapsed time, whether that is for skydiving, deep sea diving, rafting or track and field events. A chronograph easily indicates this as well as a rotating bezel on a divers watch. The watch shown above is the Rolex Submariner. This is popular with more civilians than real submariners. Some divers watches such as the IWC Deep One have a mechanical depth gauge, a fly back hand to show dive depth and an inner rotating bezel to indicate dive time. This watch also has a tiny pump that can be used to test the functionality of the depth gauge before a dive, and to flush out the system with fresh water when the diver resurfaces. Other dive watches such as the Omega Seamaster have a pressure release valve to stabilise the pressure during deep dives to ensure the continued functionality of the watch. The Bell & Ross Hydro Challenger can withstand the most demanding of deep sea diving conditions. Hyperbaric chamber testing has proved the watch's resistance to 1,110 ATM or 11,100 meters. This is 11.1 kilometers or 6.9 miles. Objects such as boulders would crumble under such pressure. This performance is due to the watch case being filled with silicon liquid which is incompressible and water resistant.
