Mint condition IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 automatic wristwatch. The IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 is becoming a rapidly increasing in value collectors classic. IWC have been making specialised and high quality watches in Switzerland since 1868. Many of the IWC vintage watches are now prized collectors items. They are a company who continue to produce high quality and unique watches for a more demanding current market. Each IWC watch is hand finished, and made to the highest of standards, where attention to detail is of essence. Design is of the essence in many IWC watches, even more so when the design is in conjunction with one of the world's most iconic of design companies, Porsche Design. The resulting watch from this collusion is a timepiece that is designed to stylish and contemporary standard and put into the construction of a watch that is strong, durable and can last for ever. This one more so than many watches, it was originally conceived in the early 1980’s when quartz watches were starting to take over the world. This collaboration between two of the most famous engineering and design companies in the world managed to stave off the competition and became a best seller. It is water resistant to 2000 metres which was fare superior to its closest competitor, even the famous Rolex Sea Dweller. This is due to the combination of the engineering ability and the case design, being pebble like in shape and domed extra thick crystal to allow resistance under extreme pressure and it was reputedly able to withstand pressures of 3200 metres. The watch was such an achievement of engineering being strong, durable, accurate and everything that a watch should be, that it was issued to the German military forces. This contract resulted in the famed Ocean 2000 BUND timepieces, which have since become some of the most sought after military watches. It was issued to naval service men and officially a mine-clearance diver’s wristwatch. As well as being a practical and strong watch, it is also strikingly good looking made in a contemporary looking style and 30 years on from its original conception, it looks like a watch that could have been designed yesterday, such is the forward thinking of the designer of the watch – reputed to be FA Porsche himself. The bracelet has the appearance of being integrated and a part of the case with a stylish looking link system on the bracelet. The case and bracelet are made from titanium so it is very strong and tough, with a slight utility look about it but adds to the design conscious build of the watch. The watch has a screw down crown, convex sapphire crystal of grade 9 hardness. Comes on full bracelet suitable for approximately 7.5 to 8 inch wrist, additional links are available from IWC should they be required. This is one outstanding watch. Mint condition and highly collectible IWC Porsche Design automatic compass watch. IWC have been making specialised and high quality watches in Switzerland since 1868. The resulting watch from this collusion is a timepiece that is designed to stylish and contemporary standard and put into the construction of a watch that is strong, durable and can last for ever. This watch was originally released in 1974, intended for use with the German military and it was indeed issued with success to military forces, however there are no issue stamps on this one so it is a civilian model. The movement is fully automatic, Swiss made 25 jewel. The dial is mat black with contrasting red sweep second hand and quick set date at the 3 position with black wheel and white print. The luminosity on the dial is fading nicely to give it a slightly aged look. Because of the mechanical compass feature, the watch was made of aluminium instead of steel, so as not to interfere with the magnetism that the compass requires to operate. It was originally produced with two finishes, the anodised military green and anodised black finish, this one is black which is more wearable than the green finish. The watch features a mechanical compass. This is revealed by pressing the buttons on each side of the watch case at the 6 position. The clicking in and out is a nice secure click. The watch head is lifted and can rest on an internal latch so it does not fall shut when being operated. It clicks open and closed smoothly and easily on the latch. The compass can be rotated independently of the case by use of a hand turning bezel. It also has a signal mirror on the underside of the movement case, opposite the compass. The watch also features sighting guides (there are two notches on the left hand side of the case one below the 7 o'clock mark and one above the 11 o'clock mark for sighting and taking compass bearing). The bracelet is original to the watch with an IWC signed clasp. It is a safety clasp and a little bit fiddly so care should be taken in operating it. The clasp. To open it, it has a release button. To close it, the clasp extends forwards, it folds into position, then the clasp needs pulling back in the opposite direction to secure it into place. There is also a quick release when the clasp is open which is operated by a button. This releases the bracelet from the clasp. This cannot be done when the clasp is closed. Comes with original inner box and outer box, plus an extract from the archives indicating that the watch was originally purchased in Salzburg, Austria in 1981. This watch was manufactured by Orfina in 1980, to the design of the Porsche company. Orfina were the original company used by Porsche for their watch designs. This later went to IWC and is currently Eterna. This particular model is the original and cult classic 1970’s Porsche design watch, and was designed by the legendary Ferdinand Porsche himself – the man who gave us the best known sports car in the world, the Porsche 911. The watch is a beautiful and masterful watch, with sweeping and curving lines, the dial is clean and minimalist in design bringing a pure functionality without un necessary clutter. Porsche design watches are leading edge watches in terms of, looks, functionality, construction and sheer style. The company was founded by Ferdinand Porsche, a design guru, who designed not only cars, but many other stylish everyday items. Has a date at the 4 position, genuine original black silicone rubber strap with signed titanium PD pin buckle. It has a quartz precision movement with 5 stepper motors and a frequency of 32,768 Hertz or vibrations per second. Its functions include a totaliser to 1/10th second at the 2 position. A twelve hour totaliser at 10 position. Sub dial for seconds at 6 position. Red chronograph seconds hand at center. Timing functions: start/stop and split (cumulative intermediate times). Stunning looking watch, and one that anybody would be very proud to sport on their wrist as it is the culmination of avant garde styling, world class construction and a racing pedigree which is the envy of any other motor manufacturer. Mint condition Porsche Design P11 automatic wristwatch on steel bracelet. This watch was manufactured by Eterna, to the design of the Porsche company. This particular model is fashioned in a more contemporary design and typical in Porsche feel, with a minimalist, yet bold and contemporary feel to it. This is seen within the clean lines, cross hair dial, horizontal linked bracelet , positioning of logos and the lack of numbers on the dial. The watch is a beautiful and masterful watch, with sweeping and curving lines, the dial is clean and minimalist in design bringing a pure functionality without un necessary clutter. The watch is striking and a pleasure to view. Like the Porsche 911 car, this is a watch that is sleek and stylish. The case is stainless steel with a solid steel screw on back. Mat black dial with superbly contrasting red sweeping hand. It has a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, black date wheel and screw down crown allowing 100 metres of water resistance (not tested). The bracelet is original to the watch and has the PD logo on the clasp. It is a double push button butterfly deployant clasp.
