Form and function in the 6066 Frankfurt Finanzplatzuhr
(finance place alarm watch). The watch is designed to commemorate the
Finance district of Frankfurt, one of the busiest commercial and financial
districts in Europe and the world. It
is the seat of the European Central Bank as well as many other major
German and non German banks operating on a global scale.
Within this global fast paced economy which is interconnected to
the rest of the world by satellite and high speed digital communications
– the Sinn watch is a mechanical and traditional device set apart from
the technology of the financial district.
Stunning good looks, symmetrical layout and highly functional –
adhering to the fundaments of the financial institutions that the watch
represents. Most Sinn watches are sporty, practical or military looking.
This one however is designed for more formal wear with a suit in a
daily work environment, where the only bumps the watch gets is against a
brief case or a computer keyboard. However whilst it is designed as a formal dress watch, it is
built like a real work horse, it has the water resistance of a divers,
watch, the anti magnetism and negative pressure of an aviators watch and
the shock resistance of a military watch.
But finely crafted as a dress watch in an art form of watch making
that Sinn understand only too well. The
watch is presented ins a solid steel case that is highly polished with a
matching highly polished fine linked bracelet.
It has a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with anti reflective
coating, pressure resistant up to 10 bar which is approximately 100 metres
water depth. Has an internal
rotating bezel operated by the crown at 10.
Along with this, the alarm hand and the regular time.
The movement is a Jaquet K 5900. with self-winding mechanism and 31
jewels and operating at 28.800 vibrations per hour.
It is antimagnetic according to DIN 8309 and shock resistance
according to DIN 8308. The
time is set with second hand stop mechanism, so it can be accurately set
to a time signal. It has a
quick adjust date and second time zone.

Sinn 900 Multi Function Chronograph

Brand new - The 900 multi
function alongside the 958 Fulda challenge is Sinn’s most technical watch
yet. It is a most impressive and
technical looking with many practical uses as it has a plethora of functions
and features. As well as it
having technical features, the movement itself is also very technical, as it
is a modification of a Valjoux 7750 to incorporate a second time zone hand
which also doubles a North determination hand for navigational purposes.
The movement is a mechanical lever movement with self-winding
mechanism, 25 jewels and 28.800 vibrations per hour refined working parts
including blued screws and decorated rotor, it is antimagnetic according to
DIN 8309 and shock resistance according to DIN 8308.
The time setting has stopping mechanism for accurate time setting,
quick adjustment of date, metering range of chronograph is 12 hours and of
course split seconds mechanism. The dial display functions and features include, luminous
hands and indices, hours, minutes, seconds, date indication at 3 position,
sweep seconds, 30-minute recorder, 12-hour recorder, second time zone hand and
24 hour scale used for independent second time zone, indication of direction
for ascertainment via position of the sun, 24 hour scale, 60-minute scale,
pilots rotating bezel with minute division – this is an internal rotating 24
bezel operated by the crown at the 10 position (which is also used with the
second time zone hand), pulsometer and breath counter scale (with basis 15) up
to 200, Tachometer (with basis 1) up to 600, Telemeter scale (distance of
sound source from location) up to max 20 km, march/hiking kilometer counter up
to 60 km – determining the distance hiked over a given period of time and a
solid steel case back which has an imperial to metric conversion chart laser
printed in it. These include Temperature: Degree of Celsius in degrees of
Fahrenheit, fuel consumption: Liter/100 km into miles by gallon (mpg), speed:
Kilometer per hour into miles by hour (mph), kDruck: MPa in Kilos pound by
square inch (ksi), tire pressure: bar in pound by square inch (psi) as well as
the speed indices for passenger car tires. The case is high grade stainless
steel, DIN material number 1,4435, tegiment treated to give a highly durable
and robust case harness of 1200 HV (Vickers surface hardness).

The Arktis 203 is technology built for the most extreme
conditions. Like many Sinn watches, this is watch combines functionality,
practicality and durability with rugged good looks and ice blue features
representing the extreme ice environments which is more than fit for.
That which proves reliable in extreme situations is certainly a

This watch’s actual test constituted extreme temperature changes,
from ticking at 1.6 °C three hundred meters below ice flows to cold polar
air at –25 °C, or from a warm South Seas coral reef directly to a
coolly air-conditioned restaurant. The
watch still working without hitch within these challenging environments
are assisted by Sinn’s patented dehumidifying technology, the copper
sulplate water absorbing capsule – dehumidifies the movement but
protected form the outside environment.
This is assisted by the water repelling argon filled cavity. In
addition the lubrication of all of the movement’s bearings with an
extremely temperature resistant special synthetic oil ensuring the
watch’s rate in temperatures ranging from –45 °C to +80 °C.
The watch’s Valjoux 7750 movement is modified by Sinn’s
engineers, to become a reliable and highly functional movement and ensures
that the chronograph functions remain exceptionally precise.
All of the functions needed for measuring time, periods of time,
and diving times are included. The
watch remains highly legible underneath the slightly domed sapphire
crystal, even at extreme angles. The buttons and crown are screwed-in,
shock-resistant and made water-resistant with two o-rings. The dial is a
beautiful shimmering, blue steel that retains its special hue for the
entire life span of the watch. It
is colour fast and full of contrast, as it is specially treated and
galvanized in an electrolytic blue bath.
A fired, colourless protective coat of paint secures this process.

Like many Sinn watches the 244 titanium automatic chronometer is over engineered to exacting standards, but by no means over designed. Quite the contrary with this watch as the “less is more” design principle is very evident. Strong, robust durable and reliable but with a simplistic and minimalist design. It is an attractive design with easy to see legible dial with broad hands and baton markings which are highly luminous. These are offset against a mat black dial and sharply contrasting sweep second hand. Highly accurate as it is a certified chronometer and tested by the independent COSC Swiss testing body. The watch case and bracelet are made from pure titanium and has anti magnetic field protection to 80,000 A/m. Outstanding design and very successful model, the 157 automatic chronograph is a watch amongst watches. This is one of the last Sinn watches available with the Lemania 5100 movement – the movement is now discontinued for commercial use and only available to watches for military contracts. The movement is the highly functional and technical Lemania 5100 movement, this watch is a real work horse. It is reputedly the first automatic chronograph worn in space by Reinhard Furrer on the 1985 Spacelab D1 mission. The design is outstanding and has been around for a number of years. The much talked about and long awaited H2 is now available. The Sinn H2 is based on the 903 range of watches and like the 903 family it is a pilots chronograph is pure form and function. It is a low production limited edition with only 220 pieces being made.
