Lemania Wristwatch
|
Mint
condition Lemania manual winding wristwatch. Lemania are one of the most
famous movement makers alongside Valjoux and ETA. In their heyday, Lemania
were making movements for the majority of Swiss watch companies as they
were well designed and durable. Lemania movements will still be found in
mechanical watches made today. At one time they were producing their own
watches. Many of the Lemania designs were very distinctive with two tone
dials in black and grey with the numbers inside black or grey rings. They
were famous for making simple but effective watches. They also made some
of the most rugged and durable watches which were chosen by several
countries defence forces to be issued to the armed forces. As a result,
Lemania have a cult following as they are a reputable company with the
name on the dial reflecting that name on the movement – that is a true
watch manufacturer, not an outsourcer. This watch has an excellent to mint
dial and case, with just some insignificant wear from normal use.
Excellent, distinctive and eye catching dial design with silver central
disc, the bold numerals in a black ring and the minute markings in an
outer silver ring. The large word "Lemania" with the distinctive
crown logo is written across the dial. Beautiful silver dauphine style
hands and subsidiary seconds hand. Art deco style thick lugs. Solid
stainless steel case, screw on back, long lugs and mint condition
movement. A great classic collectors watch, which will only increase in

Lemania Manual Winding Chronograph
|
Excellent
condition Lemania manual winding chronograph dating from the late 1950’s.
The Lemania watch company no longer makes watches, but they do make
movements. The Lemania movements are sued by some of the world’s most
prestigious watch companies, and their particular strength is in
chronograph movements. The Lemania 5100 is used today by many companies
due to its functionality, robustness and reliability. The thing that set
many watch companies apart were those companies who bought movements from
movement makers and those who made their own. Lemania of course made their
own, and there is nothing like owning a watch where the name on the dial
matches the name stamped on the movement. This watch is a beautiful
example of that type of satisfying watch. It has a Lemania calibre 13
movement. It is all stainless steel with a lovely curved case back, and
beautiful curved crystal. The dial is a bit faded, but adds to the appeal
of this watch. It has flat pushers, and matching narrow flat lugs and
triangular applied baton markers. Tachometric scale in very fine print. In
excellent working order. Very attractive and collectible watch, dial is

Memosail Countdown Yacht Timer - Valjoux 7737 Movement
|
Excellent
condition Memosail Countdown Yacht Timer with Valjoux 7737 manual winding
movement. An unusual and very striking watch. Primarily made for yacht
racing where the timer is started 10 minutes before the race. The idea is
so that when the signal is heard 10 minutes before the race begins, the
yacht can be maneuvered into place with gaining speed for crossing the
start line at the exact right time. The countdown numbers are large so the
skipper can instantly see how much time has elapsed. The countdown
chronograph is very unusual in that it is a wheel beneath the dial much
like a date wheel. In the stopped position, the chrono wheel states
"start" which is ready for the start of the race. When the
chrono is activated with the pusher at 2, the timer begins, and the orange
sweep hand is set into action. At 30 seconds, the chrono wheel does a half
turn and at 60 seconds it does a full turn to indicate 1 minute of elapsed
time. The number 10 will also come into view on the chrono wheel, which is
the first minute of the 10 minute countdown that has elapsed. This will
continue for 10 minutes until the chrono wheel has fully revolved, and
countdown passes the 1 minute mark and the race begins. The first 5
minutes of the chrono wheel is yellow with black numbers, and the last
five minutes is red with white numbers. Ingenious design, which can also
be used for a 15 minute timer as the word "start" is broken up
into 5 letters, which can be used as a 15 minute countdown. The countdown
numerals on the outer chapter of the dial is a 60 second countdown so the
skipper can see at any time, the exact counted down time. For instance if
the chrono wheel is on 6 and the chrono hand is pointing to 45, this means
that there is 6 minutes and 45 seconds left to the start of the race. (the
bottom picture shows 3 minutes and 50 seconds left to the start of the
race). The movement is a Valjoux 7737 which is a modified Valjoux 7733.
The modification allows the chrono wheel to do a half turn at 30 seconds.
The pusher at 4 resets the chrono wheel and chrono hand. Solid and heavy
stainless steel case, yacht logo on the dial and engraved into case back.
Width is 38 mm excluding crowns, 41 mm including crowns and 42 mm lug to
lug, thickness is 15 mm. Ref:

Near mint condition Zodiac
automatic chronograph with Valjoux 7750 movement. Wonderful example of a
cult classic automatic chronograph. Zodiac began life in Switzerland in
1882, and they have been one of the few Swiss companies to keep pace with
the hugely changing technological demands of horology. Today, Zodiac
celebrates its rich Swiss watch making tradition with fresh designs that
address a selected range of contemporary tastes, while maintaining their
classic elegance. No truer word said when referring to this watch. It has
a beautiful, yet practical design with a mat black dial and sharply
contrasting hands and markers. It is slightly reminiscent of an Omega moon
watch, but has it’s own strength and design character to set it apart.

is a telemeter scale on an angled internal bezel. The date window is at
the 3 position, with the usual Valjoux 7750 chronograph sub dial

Jaquet Droz Hand Wound Chronograph

|
Pierre Jaquet Droz (1721-1790)
was a Swiss watchmaker who was famous for production innovative,
complicated and outstanding wristwatches, many of which were one off
productions. Many of these are now so precious that they are priceless.
This was established from his workshops in Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in
1738. The Swatch Group purchased the Jaquet Droz business in 2000 to add
to their elite watch brands stable such as Breguet and Blancpain. The new
models from Jaquet Droz are very nice in terms of their aesthetics and
their horological attributes, and sell for astronomical prices. This one
however is not at such a price and unfortunately not of as important
historical interest, but a magnificent collectors piece all the same. It
is a hand wound two register chronograph in near mint condition. It is 9 k
gold plate with stainless steel back and, and stunning polished black
dial. The dial has got gold applied baton markers and gold hands. It is a
technical dial with tachometric scale in the outer chapter and telemetric
scale on the inner chapter. The thirty minute elapsed timer is at the 3
position, the subsidiary seconds are at the 9 position and the sixty
second elapsed timer is the large sweep second hand. Amazing historical
and interesting watch. The width is 36 mm excluding crown, 39 mm including
crown. The thickness is 11.5 mm and the lug to lug distance is 45 mm. Ref.

Tudor Submariner – Rare Blue Dial and
Bezel
|
The Tudor Submariner -
another watch that needs no introduction, and coming only second to it’s
big brother the Rolex Submariner. The Tudor is amongst the most successful
and widely known divers watch in the world – mainly because it is
identical in looks to the Rolex Submariner, but sports a different movement.
Like the Rolex, it is the watch that set the standard in professional divers
watches and one that most other divers watches aspire to emulate. This
particular example is in near mint condition, and very rare and hard to find
blue dial and bezel model. It has the luminous dial markings without the
metal marker outlines which make the dial less glaring, and more easily
visible against the mat blue dial. The dial and bezel a blue - grey colour
giving it a very attractive almost faded appearance. It is of course also
the model with the rarer square indices and diamond shape hour hand and
second hand ends. Has date window at 3 with the Rolex signature cyclops
magnifier. It is 200 metres resistant, sturdy bi directional, non ratchet
rotating bezel with Rolex triplock screw down crown and genuine Rolex 2 mm
thick plexi crystal. The bracelet has a few light marks from regular wear.
It has the Tudor shield on the clasp, folded links, wetsuit extension and
safety fliplock buckle. The case back is stamped with "Original Oyster
Case by Rolex Geneva" with the Rolex crown logo. The watch comes with a
service receipt for new genuine parts crystal, crown, tube and service, this
is dated 10th July 2003. The watch comes with the original box,
outer box, paperwork and original receipt showing the watch was purchased in
London on August 1987 for £180. Dimensions are as follows: width is 39.5 mm
excluding crown, 43.5 mm including crown and 47 mm lug to lug and thickness
is 14 mm. VIN 300 Price is £875 (US $1,485)

Excellent Condition Minerva Chronograph
– Minerva Cal. 13-20 CH

Excellent condition Minerva
hand wound chronograph with Minerva calibre 13-20 CH movement. Minerva are
a long established Swiss watch maker, still going strong today. They have
a reputation for manufacturing high quality products, and prices today for
a chronograph start at about the £2,000 mark (US $3,200). They are also
known for having just a few products in the product line up, and focusing
on creating a beautiful and brilliant watch, where a lot is invested in
the development of the individual watch, rather than spending on a large
product range. This is a Gents all stainless steel hound wound chronograph
with black dial, and very superior movement. It is in excellent condition,
but with a little fading to the dial, but nothing that will detract from
the appeal and allure of this watch. The name stamped on the dial which
matches the name stamped on the movement, is the true sign of a pure bred
manufacturer. This is certainly the case with Minerva. It is very
attractive, all original, but with replacement strap. Telemeter scale in
inner chapter, seconds scale on outer chapter. Well positioned pushers,
directly adjacent tot he lugs, large winding crown and long lugs,
beautifully proportioned case and well balanced attractive dial.

Vulcain Cricket Hand Wound Mechanical
Wrist Alarm sold
|
Mint condition and seldom used
Vulcain Cricket mechanical wrist alarm. This watch looks like it is from
new old stock, but has been worn just a handful of times. Vulcain were a
popular manufacturer throughout the 20th Century making high
quality Swiss made watches. Apparently all of the US presidents were
awarded with a Vulcain Cricket when they were inaugurated into office, and
the only one who is said to have actually worn his was JFK. Vulcain were
famous for their alarm movements from the 1940’s to the 1980’s. They
were loud and reliable. This watch has an ingenious and simple method of
operation. The winding crown turned clockwise winds up the alarm
mechanism. The crown wound anti clockwise winds up the watch mainspring.
The crown also sets the hands when pulled out to the first position. The
alarm setting is operated by pressing the button at the 2 position, this
releases the winding crown to a second position, which when turned, allows
you to set the alarm indicator (the red arrow tipped hand). When the
desired time is selected, you press the crown back in. The alarm will then
sound on cue and is loud enough to wake you up from sleep. To cut the
alarm, simply press the button at 2. The back has large cuts in it and is
raised to allow for sound resonance. There is some aging to the plate
underneath the cuts in the case back. This looks due to exposure to the
atmosphere. Apart from that, the watch looks like new. This includes the
dial which still has very bright luminosity. Outstanding collectors
classic. Dimensions are 34 mm excluding crown, 37 mm including crown and
42 mm lug to lug, thickness is 12 mm Ref:

Baume & Mercier Automatic Chronograph sold

Excellent condition Baume
& Mercier automatic chronograph. Baume & Mercier are a Swiss company
established in 1830 in Geneve. They focused on manufacturing high quality
timepieces and continue that tradition today, making high grade quality
watches in the same price category of many of the other Swiss big brand
names such as Zenith, Rolex, Omega etc. This is a dress style chronograph
and designed like all other Baume & Mercier watches, which is with
panache, style and a penchant for the unusual and contemporary designs which
often set standards and trends. This can be said for this watch, as the
unusual lugs on the right hand side extend half way down the case and are
made to look like they are supporting the chronograph pushers. It is large
and heavy in solid stainless steel which is brushed mat finish, with a
polished fixed bezel. The crystal is scratch resistant sapphire, unusual
hexagonal crown signed with the Baume & Mercier logo. The dial is crisp

Certina Chronolympic – Valjoux 23
movement reserved
|
Mint and barely used
condition Certina Chronolympic manual winding chronograph, which comes in it’s
original box. Certina are a Swiss company who started production in Grenchen,
Switzerland in 1888. They are still producing high quality wristwatches
today. Certina were originally a movement and supplies company. A few years
later they were producing complete timepieces along with high quality and
discreet movements that they sold to other watch companies as well as used
in their own watches. The Chronolympic was made for the Munich 1972 Olympic
Games. It is a large and purposeful high quality watch, specifically
designed for timing sporting events at the Olympics. It is large, so that it
can be hand held and easily operated. The case is solid stainless steel and
virtually flawless. It is very clear that it has been worn only a handful of
times. The dial is marked for sports timing. The first 15 seconds are marked
out in blue and white with 1/5th second increments for accurate
timing of short racing events. The 15 to 45 seconds are marked in red and
white, and this will double up as a minute timer as well, for timing longer
events. It has a twelve hour elapsed timer at the 6 position. The 60 minute
elapsed timer is a orange hand that rotates the main dial every hour. The
sixty second hand is the white sweep second hand. The main time telling
hands are pale blue. The movement is a modified Valjoux 23. It is modified
so that the 60 minute recorder is on the centre pinion rather than as a sub
register and to create a twelve hour elapsed timer. Altogether very bright
and colourful watch that is extremely well designed and thought out in terms
of the dial markings and the modifications to the movement to create a
specialist sports timing instrument. Outstanding watch and excellent value
for money as this is a real collectors classic. Original box, but appears to
be a replacement strap. The width is 40 mm excluding crown, 43.5 mm
including crown. The thickness is 13.5 mm and the lug to lug distance
is 44 mm. Ref. VIN 313 £295 or US $495

Dumont Manual Winding Chronograph –
Landeron 48
|
Good condition Dumont manual
winding wristwatch with Landeron 48 manual winding movement. Dumont are one
of the many miscellaneous Swiss companies who went in and out of production
at one stage or another. The important thing here though is that it has got

trained watch makers. The dial of this watch is showing signs of ageing,
particularly to the outer edges, but this does add to the attraction of
owning an aged, characteristic and colourful manual winding Swiss
wristwatch. The dial is silver, with green painted hands and dial markings.
Nicely contrasting red sweep chronograph hand. The subsidiary seconds are at
9, the thirty minute elapsed timer is at the 3 position. Dimensions are.
Width excluding the crown is 34 mm, width including the crown is 36 mm, lug
to lug is 43 mm and the thickness is 12 mm.

comes to producing pieces for either the military or other technically
challenging environments, and this watch is no exception. It has
