Henri Sandoz - Hand Winding Gents Wristwatch
Henri Sandoz hand winding vintage gents wristwatch dating to the late 1960’s to early 1970’s. Henri Frédéric Sandoz (sometimes Frédéric Henri Sandoz) was born in 1851, was a self made man of Le Locle who in the 1870s founded Henri Sandoz & Cie. Who later became well known for producing complicated watches under the name of Cyma. In 1890, in partnership with two families named Schwob, Sandoz established a watchmaking firm at Malleray, near Tavannes, in the French speaking Bernese Jura of Switzerland. Their new business was known as Tavannes Watch Co. By the time of the death of Sandoz on 18 March 1913, many watches were made under the name of Henri Sandoz & Fils. The enterprise occupied a 'model factory' employing one thousand workers and producing 2,500 watches a day. Sandoz was reported to have a paternalistic policy towards his workforce, exercising a fierce social control. Sandoz are still in production today, and whilst the name is licensed out, the Swiss made Sandoz watches are high quality watches with Swiss made movements. This one is a beautiful looking gents hand winding watch. The most striking thing about it is the sunburst effect, degraded blue with the colour being almost silver in the centre gradually getting darker to a navy blue at the outer edges, it is stunning looking a very eye catching. The case is all stainless steel which is good quality with a sturdy screw on case back. The case back also bears the Sandoz logo, and mentions that it is water resistant, and shock resistant. The movement is a 17 jewel hand winding Swiss made movement with incablock shock protection system. Very nice watch. Dimensions are as follows. Width is 34 mm excluding crown and 35 mm including crown, lug to lug is 41 mm, Thickness is 10 mm.
