Excellent condition Zenith Automatic chronometer in 18 karat gold dating to the early 1950’s. The Chronometer is a rare and sought after watch, which is very difficult to find. Zenith began production in Switzerland in 1865 and are one of the few companies that can call themselves a manufacturer, as they design, manufacture and assemble all components in their own factories.  The watch is made from solid 18 karat gold with a decent weight to it, it has got a screw on case back which has got three sets of initials engraved on the back. These can be polished out if necessary, but it is best kept original The case is classically styled and for the era it is actually quite a large case. The case is well designed and well balanced, with lovely curved angles on the lugs.  The dial and hands are lovely and clean and in mint condition. The movement is the Zenith cal. 133.8 which is one of first Zenith automatic movements (together with cal. 133), and the first movement to have direct central second hand. It is a bumper automatic with 20 jewels, beating at 21.600 bph with a power reserve of 35 h. There were 77.000 watches produced with this caliber between 1951 and 1958. The bumper movements work in kinetic and inertia where the winding rotor moves around with the movement of the wrist. It winds the watch by the rotor impacting the winding mechanism which gives rise to it’s name the “bumper” as the rotor bumps off the winding mechanism to provide its power. The bumping is cushioned by a spring on each side of the rotor. The movement has got a nice solid action to it and it can be felt winding with a good solid impact when worn on the wrist.  The crystal is acrylic. There are some minor marks to the case, not too noticeable, these can be polished out, even a hand polish would remove most marks, but again best left original so it is not over polished.  Today for the equivalent watch from Zenith, prices start at £4,000.  The dimensions are as follows: Width is 36 mm excluding crown and 38 mm including crown, Lug to lug is 41 mm, Thickness is 10 mm. Ref ZEN 70. Price is £795 or US $,1595

Mint and hardly worn condition new old stock Zenith quatz/LED digital watch.  Zenith are a Swiss company steeped in history since 1865, and are a world class organisation producing some of the finest chronometric instruments on the market today. They are innovators and style setters.  When micro technology boomed in the late seventies, watch companies were forced to keep up to date and begin manufacturing quartz watches to keep up with competition from the far east.  However they never forgot their history and companies like Zenith made up to date quartz watches along side their mechanical watches, which was the craft they inherited from generations of skilled Swiss watch making.  This one is pretty unique.  It has a quartz analogue display with no second hand.  Instead the seconds can be displayed in Digital LED lights through the aperture at the 6 position.  This is achieved by depressing the pusher at the 4 position.  Pressing the button at the 2 position shows the day of the week in LED lights.  Also there is an AM/PM indicator which is an LED dot which is displayed on either the left or right of the date - left for AM and right for PM.  In the picture the LED is indicating that it is the 10th of the month and that it is PM.  These functions are controlled by hidden pushers on the left of the watch.  The minute hand does not move slowly into position, but is stable until 60 seconds has elapsed, them jumps into the next minute position.  Has a period shaped case which is stainless steel and a silver dial which has applied silver indices.  Comes on replacement leather strap.  Dimensions are: width 36 mm, lug to lug 40 mm, thickness 11 mm Ref. Zenith is a Swiss company steeped in history since 1865, and are a world class organisation producing some of the finest chronometric instruments on the market today.  They are innovators and style setters.  The El Primero, set the world standard in automatic chronographs and was the movement that all of the others aspired to be.  Many high value watch brands use the El Primero in their watches.  Possibly one of the more famous cult classics is the Rolex Daytona who used the El Primero for over a decade.  The movement is developed by Zenith, built by them and put in their own designed watches.  There are very few watch companies today that can provide the customer with the end to end product.  Most of them, like all global organisations outsource.  Not Zenith, and this watch is a fine example of the true product, a historical and masterful watch.  It is an early El Primero from the early 1970’s and is a very stylish large watch in typical styling of the era. Brand new, never worn and unused Zenith Rainbow Flyback. (please note pictures are shown with cellophane wrapping on bracelet and protective wax seals on the case – to this end the last picture is a library picture which has been used to show the watch in it’s true form). Zenith have been at the forefront of watch making, design and technical innovations for nearly 200 years. They have been long regarded as one of the finest Swiss watch manufacturers and one of the few companies who make every single component under one roof, from conception to completion, and each watch is an absolute masterpiece. This is the Rainbow with the el Primero flyback movement. They don’t get much better than the Zenith, in particular with the el Primero automatic flyback movement. The el Primero has been long regarded by watch experts the world over, as the finest automatic chronograph movement ever made. It has in the past been used in some of the most celebrated watch companies watches in the world. There are two variants of this watch, the colourful dial and the black dial. The colourful dial stands out and a very noticeable and prominent watch, but this black dial version is more practical looking, and a very handsome, rugged and technical looking watch. Anybody who knows about watches will instantly recognise this as one of the most desirable to have. It is very striking, well designed, beautifully finished with a technical masterpiece of a movement. Sapphire crystal, water resistant to 5 ATM, all stainless steel. Comes with box, outer box, and all papers. Dimensions are 40 mm excluding crown, 43 mm including crown, 48 mm lug to lug and 14 mm thick. Ref: ZEN 02 sold

Absolutely stunning collectors piece, mint condition and un used as new Zenith hand wound chronograph which is un worn new old stock.  The watch case, bracelet and dial are flawless.  Very populr design which dates form the late 1960’s to early 1970’s.  The case and bracelet are PVD coated stainless steel making it mat black in appearance.  It has nicely contrasting silver hands and white dial markings and matching silver winding crown and pushers.  In it’s day, the watch ad the “modernist” feel to it with it’s stylish lug less case and uni link bracelet, and of course finished in sleek looking black and silver.  Beautifully laid out symmetrical tri compax dial with concentric circled sub registers.  The overall modernist look and symmetrical layout make the watch a stylish and contemporary piece, even by today’s standards.  This is a watch to be treasured and has narrowly escaped the clutches of my own collection.  Width is 41 mm excluding crown, 44 mm including crown, lug to lug is 46 mm, and 13 mm thick. Ref. ZEN 01 sold
