Additional Product Details

Nomos Glashütte. Since the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, the historical watch making region of Glashütte in Germany has been re discovered. It is growing in importance year on year as it is home to some of the world’s most famous watch manufacturers. Nomos is a relatively new company but draws on years of heritage and tradition of the region to produce some spectacular timepieces, where attention to detail and uncompromising quality is the key philosophy of the company. The Movement The Nomos watches use a Nomos 1T hand wound movement. The parts of the movement are based on an ETA ébauche. These parts have been refined according to Glashütte tradition and developed so much further that a new movement was actually created. Important parts such as the balance including a spring, and the Triovis regulating system are manufactured exclusively for Nomos. At the Glashütte factory, the countersunk screws are polished and blued at a temperature of about 300 degrees Celsius, the ratchet and crown wheels are decorated with the Glashütte sunburst pattern and the pallet cocks and plates are adorned with the Nomos Langeleist circular graining. Finely sandblasted surfaces lend the gold plated bridges and plates a smooth and warm appeal. The Triovis regulating system controls the Nivarox 1A balance spring with 21,600 oscillations ensures the watch is accurate to less than one minute per week. Each Nomos watch is tested for several days in four different positions to ensure it works correctly before leaving the factory. The fracture proof mainspring especially manufactured for Nomos ensures an approximate power reserve of two days. The Case The Nomos case is made of high quality, hand polished stainless steel 316L surgical steel, and is nickel free. Other models are in gold or platinum. The watches are resistant to 30 metres unless it is a sport model which is resistant to 100 metres. The case backs are decorated on the inside with a "Clous de Paris" pattern. The strap lugs whilst slender are very robust as they are not welded on, but milled with the entire case from a single block of stainless steel. The pins that hold the straps are screwed into place and they are not spring bars. The hands are blued using high temperature treatment and the sports models have Superluminova non radioactive luminescence. They have polished sapphire crystals front and back (where some models have display backs). The Dial The Nomos dials are elegantly designed using slender dial markings to balance with the natural slender hands. The dials get their beautiful hue extravagantly galvanised silver plated which provides a creamy silver colour. The contrasts beautifully against the tempered blued hands. They have sunken sub seconds registers at the six position. The Straps The straps are hand made from Shell Cordovan leather which is very expensive and usually found on only the finest shoes, wallets and purses. It comes from the hind quarters of Texan work horses and is water repellent, smooth, thick and dense, but soft to the touch and very comfortable to wear. The straps have a life expectancy of many years over and above standard leather straps. Packaging There is as much workmanship in the packaging as there is the watch. All watches come in a black velvet lined box which is made from Poplar wood, which has been worked and oiled with a water soluble black stain. Inside the box is a sleeve with an information booklet detailing the company, the watches including colour pictures of the range of watches, and warranty information. Nomos watches are covered by a two year manufacturers warranty
