The most striking feature of this watch is its unique case. Squale produced this case 60 years ago for some of the most famous brands in the watchmaking industry. The Sub-39 series pays homage to the Squale’s glorious past by introducing the same polished case with only a variation in size; instead of the original 34 mm case, the Sub-39 features a 39 mm case with a thickness of about 12 mm including the sapphire crystal. Boasting the same distinctive qualities of the brand that bills itself as the Professional Dive Watch maker, water resistance is guaranteed up to 30 atm (300 meters).

The 120-click uni-directional bezel, like the case, is produced in polished 316L stainless steel. The crystal glass insert was designed to evoke Bakelite, a less resistant material used in the 60s. Another particular feature from that time are the indexes, which are marked in fifteenths. The lug-to-lug measurement is 48.5 mm, a length that ensures a comfortable fit on every wrist. Another remarkable characteristic of the Sub-39, also inspired by the original case, is the crown at three o’clock. This is a departure from the watches currently being produced by Squale, like the iconic 1521 series, which position the crown at four o’clock.

The Sub-39 dial features old radium index markers that glow green in the dark. The indexes are marked alternately with Arabic numerals.

The unique box-shaped sapphire crystal is one of the main characteristics of the Sub-39. Inspired by the Plexiglas crystal mounted on the watches from the 60s, its shape is a departure from the rounded glass more commonly used nowadays. During that time Plexiglas was set by pushing it against the case until it became fully water resistant. In order to accomplish that the glass needed to have a different shape from the ones utilized today. The current design remains true to the original characteristics, Squale decided to improve its construction by substituting Plexiglas with sapphire crystal, a highly resistant material.

The Sub-39 is powered by the Swiss-made Sellita SW 200 “REGLAGE ELABORÉ" automatic movement, a high-precision Swiss movement.

The caseback, another departure from the current designs, has been designed to give a more vintage feel to this timepiece. The central logo is surrounded by engravings recalling the design of its predecessor.

Please Note: The watch is supplied on the solid strap in the first pictures, the hole punched strap in the last three images is now discontinued
