Baume & Mercier Baumatic 18k Vintage 1970 with Box & Papers
RESERVED
Mint condition Baume & Mercier Baumatic automatic wristwatch dating to 1970. It has just had a complete service and is running perfectly. It comes with the original box and original purchase receipt. The receipt shows it was purchased from authorised Baume & Mercier dealers Morad Yousuf Behbehani in Kuwait in 1970. The original price was 100,000 Kuwaiti Dinar which is equivalent to £245, quite expensive in its day. This retailer is still in existence and are a major jewellers Kuwait. The watch is 18k solid gold. It has a total weight of 72.4g including the movement. The movement has the same value as gold, which is just over £77 per gram so scrap value of the watch is £5,550. The bracelet is not stamped B&M so probably not original to the watch, but it is 18k gold as carries the correct control marks. Even if it is not original to the watch, its a high quality bracelet, well crafted with its subtle diamond pattern and well finished. When closely observed it can only be admired for the skill and craftsmanship put in to the manufacture and the finishing to create a masterful piece of work. The 276VI is the manufacturer's mark and showing it was made in Vicenza, Italy, and the 750 indicating that it's 18k gold. The bracelet is large and suitable for a 7.5 inch or 19cm wrist with one extension so can go another half inch longer. It has the original winding crown with the B&M star logo. It’s a rare and good example of an original outstanding condition watch with original box and receipt.
