Seiko Ashtray Titanium Model 7C46-6010 From 1987

Mint condition and stunning looking Seiko model 7C46-6010 “Ashtray” dating to 1987. It was serviced last year in 2023 by Simon Wilkinson and was completely stripped down and fully overhauled. This is a rare model, made for just eight years and is a sought after model by Seiko collectors. It is a large and substantial professional divers watch, slightly curved crystal, 600 meters water resistant with an appealing English/Kanji day wheel. Titanium watches are commonplace today but it’s rare to find them built in the 1980’s as it was a material primarily used in the military and aerospace engineering, but not necessarily for consumer products like watches. The watch gets its nickname from the bezel shape which has large indentations for easy gripping. The case is unique looking in the Seiko professional divers range as it is not a shroud “tuna” style. It is still a fully professional saturation diving capable watch with its domed load bearing mineral crystal, L shaped rubber gaskets, screw down crown and uni directional rotating bezel. The movement is the Seiko 7C46 quartz movement. This was purpose built for divers watches or watches with larger hands as it is a high torque stepper capable of driving heavier hands. It is a robust movement which is antimagnetic, able handle a wide range of rapidly changing temperatures and pressures. The battery life is 5 years and the movements can be completely stripped down for servicing and adjustment purposes. The 7C46 movement is still in use today which is testament to its reliability and durability and it also means that parts are available for servicing.
