Sinn 140 St S automatic chronograph. The redesign of the technically refined space chronograph 140 resulted in the creation of the 140 St S with tegimented (hardened) black steel case. The 140 and 142 chronographs are two of our most illustrious timepieces. They have gone down in both watchmaking and space flight history. The German physicist and astronaut Reinhard Furrer wore the 140 S with Lemania 5100 movement on his wrist during the D-1 Spacelab mission in 1985. He was therefore able to demonstrate that automatic watches can function even in a weightless environment. In 1992 the astronaut Klaus-Dietrich Flade took his 142 S along with him on the Mir 92 mission. We have now subjected the 140 model series to further technical development. It incorporates the SINN-SZ01 chronograph movement. The most striking feature of the new design is the centre-mounted jump 60-minute stop hand for improved readability. The stainless steel case is surface-hardened with TEGIMENT Technology, making it especially scratch-resistant. All of the 140 model series watches incorporate Ar-Dehumidifying Technology to increase the functional reliability and prevent fogging. The movement is a Sinn SZ01 self winding mechanism with 33 bearing jewels running at 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour. It has seconds stop function for accurate time setting, is shock resistant as per DIN 8308 and anti-magnetic as per DIN 8309. The case is made of stainless steel, polished /satinised finish, sapphire crystal glass in front, anti-reflective on both sides, case back screw-fastened, nickel free and is water resistant as per DIN 8310 and pressure-resistant up to 10 bar (= 100 m water depth). The case is tegimented, therefore especially scratch-resistant with Ar-Dehumidifying Technology enhances functional reliability and freedom from fogging. Push pieces with D3-System and also the crown with D3-System for pressure and water resistance. Dimensions are: Width is 42 mm excluding crown, 44 mm including crown, lug to lug is 46 mm and thickness is 16 mm.

Sinn Watches was formed in 1961 by the legendary pilot and flight instructor Helmut Sinn. They began manufacturing flight watches based on his extensive aviation experience, this was primarily based on Mr. Sinn's dissatisfaction with the watches that were available for pilot and navigational purposes at that time. His own designs incorporated the features and functionality that he felt more fit for purpose as an instrument watch. Their timepieces are standard equipment in some of the most dangerous and adverse environments on earth - little surprise their watches are issued to the German military and elite forces. Above all the watches are manufactured and marketed to the world at large. Like the designs and their application areas, the pricing of the Sinn watches is most aggressive, making them available to most people. Due to distribution agreements Sinn watches can only be shipped to the UK and Ireland and certain countries where there is no Sinn agent assigned to that territory. Sinn watches are covered by a two or three year manufacturers warranty depending on the model.
