Zenith Super Sub Sea Hand Wound Chronograph

Rare Zenith Super Sub Sea hand wound chronograph reference A3736. As with the TV screen Big Blue, the Zenith designs of the 1970’s really exploded and old design conformities were abandoned to make way for bold, innovative and more exciting designs. These designs were initially not well received so sold in low numbers which is why today they are coveted by collectors. It has beautiful dial colours, with the main dial being polished silver and the internal rotating bezel and sub dials in polished dark silver – almost grey in colour. The hands are fluorescent orange with luminous fill and the primary numbers on the bezel are the same colour as the hands. The numbers on the sub dials are likewise in orange. Has orange luminous dot in the central sweep chronograph hand. The internal bezel is operated by the crown at the 10 position. The watch is hand wound and all buttons and the winding crown are original, the winding crown at 3 is Zenith signed. This Zenith has the manually wound Zenith cal. 146-HP one of the last manually wound chronograph movements Zenith made. The chronograph calibre 146-HP was built by the Martel Watch Company which was acquired along with its production facility in Pont de Martel Switzerland by Zenith in 1960. This is the same facility where the first prototypes of the El Primero were produced in 1965. This was the last manual wind movement caliber by Zenith-Movado before being superseded by the automatic El Primero movement. Comes on a replacement strap.
