Le Cheminant - Automatic Wristwatch 06
Brand new and genuinely never worn or used Le Cheminant automatic wristwatch. Le Cheminant is a manufacturer of good quality wristwatches and they have been in continuous production since 1822. The modern business was formed in the late 1950s by Gordon and Iris Betts, when they purchased the shops and the name from the Le Cheminant chain of jewellery shops. They had two branches in Ipswich as well as an office and workshop in Ipswich. In London there was the main branch of Le Cheminant in Wigmore Street, the sole distributor in the UK, with another branch in the Marylebone High Street.
There were several other branches around the country. They were well known in during this period in the UK due to their high street presence. Sales have declined since the quartz invasion, but they are still in business albeit on a smaller scale. This one is an automatic gents wristwatch. The case is brushed steel to the top and polished steel to the sides in a sturdy looking case with short sturdy and thick case edges. The case back is screw on and it has a non screw crown. The crystal is hardened mineral glass and it has a quick set date at the 3 position. The dial is a nice looking silver dial with silver applied batons and silver hands.
The movement is a 25 jewel Swiss made ETA 2824-2 automatic winding movement. Has glass display back showing off the gilt movement. It comes in the original box. Dimensions are width is 36 mm excluding the crown, 38 mm including the crown, lug to lug is 41 mm and thickness is 10 mm. Ref. NWW 890. Price is £275 or US 5
